Angkor Wat was built in the mid-12th Century by Suryavarman II. It was constructed at the height of the Khmer civilization and is the most impressive of all the Khmer structures.

Well some were Buddhist temples and Hindus came in later and wrecked them. The Khmer Rouge messed up a lot of them (along with everything else in the country), and some of the heads were stolen by looters.
